Name:
Carne Willsher
Position in the club:
Senior Karate Instructor
Age I started:
7 years old
Age now:
35 years old
Reason for starting karate:
My dad done judo when he was younger and was always keen for me to learn self defence, so I went along to the local karate club and have never looked back!
I started karate as I wanted to learn something different as appose to what all my friends done which was football.
What are your goals and aspirations:
I always find setting yourself goals is key, I set my latest goal is to achieve my 4th Dan by the time I am 36 years old and the other is to achieve my 5th Dan by the time I am 45 years old (hopefully). My aspiration is to share my karate knowledge and experiences with the children who come to KMA with little or no confidence. Especially seeing them develop and grow into fantastic, respectful confident children who are passionate about karate. Who knows, one day probably they might even teach me some wise moves!
Why Teach & train at KMA:
KMA is a fantastic place to train, there is a wealth of experience across all the instructors from different walks of life who are passionate and keen to share their knowledge with all the students as well as the instructors. We are strong believers that KMA is not only a karate school but is also a family.
Achievements:
My first achievement was getting to enter my first ever kumite fight, getting kicked in the head and somehow walking away with 3rd place, all at the age of 13 years old!
My other achievements are continuously pushing myself to get better by entering competitions and walking away with a medal or trophy over the years. By pushing myself, this has also helped by getting my 3rd Dan.
I tend not to enter as many competitions now, so my real biggest achievement is seeing the students continuously develop either by doing their gradings or entering competitions, this for me is a sence of real achievement.
Personal interests and hobbies away from karate and family life:
Outside of karate, my interest is having some nice food and an ice-cold beer whilst meeting up with friends and putting the world to rights.
